Join the Sharon Recreation Department for our most popular sailing program. Participants will learn to rig a sailing boat, perform capsize recoveries, sail in every direction, perform man over-board drills, and learn to tie basic knots. Each two week session will be concluded with an exam. Participants are encouraged to bring their own water shoes, gloves, and helmets. Helmets can be rented by leaving a $50 deposit. Please note that the program is for children entering grades 6-9 in the Fall (grade 5 is listed because the grades will not advance in our system until the end of this school year).
NOTE: Registration is non-transferable to other sessions. Due to high demand this is a NON-REFUNDABLE program, so please select your dates carefully.
This year all participants must meet at Veterans' Memorial Park Beach on June 13th at 4pm to complete a mandatory swim test. In the event the participant does not show up to take a swim test on June 13th and is not able to pass the test on the first day of the session, a full refund will NOT be issued. This takes away from someone else being able to participate in the program. Participants MUST be able to swim the length of the test (approximately 25 yards) without holding on and demonstrate an adequate ability to float/tread (for one minute).
Due to high demand and limited seating, this program is available to Sharon residents only and students may only register for two sessions maximum. Registration for more than two sessions will result in forfeiture of a slot with no refund.
Please note that there will be no sailing on Monday, July 3rd or Tuesday July 4th during Session 1. This change in the scheduled is reflected in the pro-rated price for Session 1.
